Dessert of the Week (Peach Pie) and the Institution of the 10:00 Bedtime...
The cruel world of gainful employment requires me to seasonally postpone my work as a domestic goddess, hence the lack of posts as of late. So my apologies for no new interesting posts. It has been a strange summer for me, one in which I tried to recapture the art of rest. Some days were great--reflections made, projects completed, books read, relationships strengthened. And some days I descended into a kind of restless slothfulness.
This summer Doug and I got to explore more of this incredible state that we live in. We got to know some new friends. We had the priviledge of filling our guest bed multiple times over the summer, and for that I am grateful that people love us enough to make the trip to visit.
The school year for educators seems to begin the same way every year. While kids are out finalizing their school supply list, teachers are holed up in auditoriums and board rooms psyching themselves up for a new year. This tends to include guest speakers and other events that remind us of the pride we should take in our profession, in the difference we make in the lives of children (presumably to distract us from realizing how little we actually get paid for all this life-changing).
Yet for some reason, this year, I believe it.

I was just wondering about you and the new school year today! Not until NOW though, was I thinking about peach pie.
Yes, you can make a difference in a child's. . . . of my gosh look at that piece of pie!
To be honest, as much as I'd like to say that it was that whole making a difference thing that brought me into public education, in truth it was the prospect of bake sales...
Hooray for the changing of seasons! My classes start on Monday as well. Let's celebrate! How much pie do you have left over? :)
